We can’t believe we’re already at our 2-year mark. Time really flies! Here’s what’s been going on.
Year 1 brought us so much growth. Thanks to all our incredibly kind donors and readers, we’ve been able to dedicate all of our time to building a place where people could find quality independent education and practical guides to take action in their own lives. We reached so many new folks, made new friends, and became an invaluable resource to everyday people like you who are tired of talking about our problems and want to actually do something about it. We’re wholeheartedly grateful to all of you who have supported us with donations or just your valuable attention because we couldn’t have done it alone.
Year 2, however, has come with many challenges. During tough economic times, everyone is feeling the pressure - us too. Since the beginning of 2026, our recurring support has been steadily decreasing and we’ve been stretched thin. Fundraising has been harder than ever and we’ve explored different changes this year to stay afloat but haven’t been able to hit our annual goals.
It’s been tough, but we’re persevering! Because this project is important to us and we’ve seen it help so many people already, we’re committed to keeping it going no matter what. We know bad times won’t last forever and there are still people out there that are willing to help.
So this birthday, we’re asking this community to consider becoming a recurring donor at $5/month or above. Currently, 3% of our readers are recurring donors – we’re hoping to add 150 new donors to get us up to 5%!

WHY GIVE?
We’ve come to understand The Conscious Citizens as far more than a newsletter and directory. For many readers, it’s a portal to possibility, a means of expanding or completely changing their perspectives on what sustainable, creative, and everyday activism can look like. Donations will help us:
- Cover hosting costs, which increase regularly as our subscriber list grows.
- Build a better website. When we started, we found a template to help us bring our website to life but as we grow we would love to hire a developer to build something more custom, so that it’s easier for everyone to discover resources.
- Hire help & pay ourselves. Researching, writing, filming, editing, designing, and more takes a lot of time and effort. Donations help us compensate ourselves and others for dependable support as we expand the project.
- Dedicate more time to this work. With more support we can dedicate more time to this - finding more good resources, providing more quality education, hosting events, and making more videos.

Our requested donation is $5/month, which rounds out to $1.25/week. Only you know if this cost feels comfortable. To help you decide, we’ll ask two questions:
- Do you get value from the Conscious Citizens? (e.g. Have you discovered new things from us? Has it changed how you think about politics, culture, and activism? Has it helped you take action?)
- Will $1.25/week have an impact on your life?
